Antique Dresser

Create the things you love.

One my favorite things to do is to restore or refinish antique furniture. I personally prefer the ones with straight, clean lines and I love the ones with skeleton key locks and latches. I love taking these from trash to treasure. I would say that I do intend to fix them up and sell them but many times I just love the end result and end up keeping a number of them. Either way it a fun hobby for me and I can’t wait to get going on the next one.

This one in the front was the dresser.  I should have taken better before pictures but the woman I got it from said her husband had it in their garage for over 50 years and there was a dark watermark stain from where her husband put his beer every time he worked in the garage, every year for those 50 years.

This is the dresser all sanded down.

Here it is after the first coat of stain.  You can see the mark from the previous owner's beer can.

Some of the drawers stained.

And here is the final result.  This was the first piece I had refinished, and I accidentally lost one of the wooden handles in the process (which I found much later) so I had opted for brushed nickel knobs that I picked up from my local Home Depot.  I loved the finished look of this piece.
